Alex Rodriguez just can’t completely walk away from the game. Everyone speculated that he would attempt to comeback as a player for the 2017 season. But onn January 4, 2017, he made it clear that his playing days were over. That said, Rodriguez is currently at Spring Training with the Yankees as a special advisor and making $21 million.

But once the Yankees break camp and head north to the Bronx for the regular season, A-Rod will become a full time analyst for Fox Sports. On Tuesday, he signed a multi-year deal that includes commentary on Fox MLB Saturday along with studio pre-game coverage, similar to what he did last year for the postseason.

If last postseason served as an audition for a full time gig, Rodriguez hit it out of the park. He quickly went from the most hated player in the league to a fan favorite in a matter of days. SI.com ran a piece last year about A-Rod the TV star. He was informative with his analysis and, most shocking of all, he was liked by the fans. The best clip came after a pre-game shows ended and luckily the camera where still rolling. Rodriguez and Frank Thomas were talking with MLB hit king, Pete Rose. It is clear that Rodriguez will always be a student of the game and now he has a great opportunity to share his knowledge of the game with us all year.

On the field, it always felt like A-Rod wanted to be loved by fans the way his teammate Derek Jeter was. It didn’t quite happen. But with his second career, Rodriguez may accomplish something Jeter never had or wanted: broadcast booth stardom.
